Biography

Dr Liane Ioannou is a Victorian Cancer Agency (VCA) Mid-Career Research Fellow within the Cancer Research Program, led by Professor John Zalcberg, at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons), double majoring in genetics and psychology, and was awarded her PhD in 2013 by Monash University. Dr Ioannou has focused her research on health behaviours and research and, more recently, to extending the science of registries to evaluate and improve the quality of health care in cancer.

As well as being an Academic Research Fellow on the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (UGICR) and the Australian and New Zealand Thyroid Cancer Registry (ANZTCR), Dr Ioannou has a strong interest in quality of life research and is currently leading her own program of supportive care research for patients with upper gastrointestinal cancer. This includes leading a novel registry-based randomised controlled trial, PROpatient, of symptom monitoring, using patient-reported outcomes, integrated into clinical practice in real-time, via a centralised model of care coordination, to improve the quality of life for patients with pancreatic and oesophagogastric cancer.
