As a Research Fellow with the School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia, Loong Yi develops novel robot mechanisms and form factors where application-driven functions and intelligence can be embedded in the robot body.
Prior to Monash, he was a Research Associate with the University of Bristol, UK, working on soft robot manipulation in the Bristol Robotics Laboratory. He obtained his PhD in Engineering and B.Eng(Hons) in Mechatronics Engineering from Monash University in 2022 and 2018 respectively.
Making robots that work in uncertain environments, whether that be:
- Difficult manipulation tasks.
- Interacting with humans and other lifeforms.
- Traversing built and natural environments.
Focus areas in research are morphological computation, soft and smart materials, emergent robot behaviors, robot design and learning.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
