Biography

Kadek is one of many who believe in the promising future of immersive analytics: a means of understanding data using visualisation and/or multi-sensory data representations enabled by immersive technologies. Kadek's work explores the immersive analytics’ design space for various applications, as well as evaluates the potential benefits that immersive analytics has promised.

Kadek received his PhD on immersive geovisualisation from the DVIA Lab, Monash University. After submitting his thesis on August 2021, Kadek started a postdoctoral position at the Wearable Computer Lab, University of South Australia, where he worked on a visualisation research project that is part of The Innovative Manufacturing CRC. In August 2022, Kadek re-joined the DVIA Lab as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where he continued advancing immersive analytics research.

Kadek researches the future of visual analytics techniques to facilitate the understanding of complex data related to physical objects and spaces. The advancement of sensor technology has allowed for the collection of vast amount of data on objects and environments across a wide range of domains. The increasingly powerful computing and graphics technology can now create diverse visual representations of abstract data and the environment from which the data was collected. This includes the capability to present data representations in immersive ways using technologies such as virtual and augmented reality displays, and input devices that allow for embodied user interactions. Despite the advancement in computing power and technological foundation, questions arise as to how we can effectively design such representations and the supporting interaction techniques. Kadek's research seeks to answer these questions by exploring related concepts, including situated visualization, immersive analytics, general human-computer interaction principles, and geographic visualization.
