Biography

Dr Jim Koukounaras graduated from the Flinders University of South Australia in 1998. He spent his early post graduate years at Austin Health, Melbourne where he completed his radiology training in 2006. 

Having completed fellowships in MRI and Interventional Radiology, he undertook a further fellowship in Angiography and Interventional Radiology at The Ottawa Hospital, Canada. He returned to Melbourne in late 2008 and began his current position as an Interventional Radiologist at The Alfred.

Dr Koukounaras has specific interests in Uroradiology, Trauma Radiology, Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Interventional Oncology. He successfully completed the European Board of Interventional Radiology examination in 2018.

Dr Koukounaras is committed to high quality, evidence based, patient care. He has been actively involved in education and training, having served as a Director of Training for Alfred Health Radiology and as Lead examiner in Pathology for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. He is currently the Acting Head of Interventional Radiology at Alfred Health.
