Personal profile

Biography

Jianglong Yu obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Newcastle in 2003. In the following two years, he worked at Monash University as a postdoc research fellow. He was offered an academic position in 2005 in Shenyang Aerospace University and acted as the director of the Thermal Energy Research Centre. In 2010, he was offered a position as the director of the Key Laboratory of Advanced Coal and Coking Technology of Liaoning Province at the University of Science and Technology Liaoning (USTL). In the same year, he was awarded the Excellent Researchers of Shenyang City and was granted the University Talents Program of Liaoning Province. From March 2011 to January 2014, he has acted as the head of the School of Chemical Engineering at USTL. From January 2014 to January 2021, he worked an academic position at the University of Newcastle as a Professor of Chemical Engineering and acted as the Director of the International Collaborative Centre for Carbon Futures (ICCCF). Since January 2021, he has been appointed as a Senior Principal Research Fellow of Monash Suzhou Research Institute. He now acts as the Vice-President of Monash Suzhou Campus, the Vice-Dean of the Monash University—Southeast University Joint Graduate School, and a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Monash University. He is also an honorary Professor of Chemical Engineering of the University of Newcastle.

Research interests

Professor Yu has broad research interests and has focused on the R&D of clean utilization technology for coal and biomass, in particular on pyrolysis and combustion, smart cokemaking, carbon materials derived from coal/biomass, flue gas cleaning, hydrogen energy and utilization, and application of artificial intelligence in chemical engineering. He has undertaken a total of 56 grants with total funding of 7.36 million Australian dollars, more than 10 national projects, 15 state-level projects, international collaborative projects, and industrial projects. He has supervised a total of 70 HDR students, including 28 PhD students and 42 Master students. He has published 224 journal articles in international journals and 39 conference papers. He has been granted 14 patents. His H-index is 36 by the Scopus. He has served as the guest editor for a number of journals, including Fuel Processing Technology (2019), Fuel (2010), the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (2020), and Energy and Fuels (2020, and the editorial board member of Bioresource Technology (2015-2021). He has been involved in organizing international conferences, including the International Symposium on Gas Cleaning at High Temperatures, and the International Symposium on Clean Energy and Advanced Carbon Materials (CEAM 2018 and 2019). Professor Yu has established an excellent international research collaboration network with colleagues in other institutions and industry partners in Australia, Korea, and China.
