Huai Leng (Jessica) Pisaniello is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Musculoskeletal Health and Wiser Health Care Units within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University (since 2024). She recently completed her PhD (2018-24) at the University of Adelaide. Jessica is also a consultant rheumatologist in private practice in Victoria (and previously in South Australia). She is an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Manchester (2019-25).

An early career researcher, Jessica has co-authored 14 publications (including 7 as first author). She has skills in clinical epidemiology and statistical analysis. Her previous research projects include multi-trajectory analysis of pain-related health outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and associations with sociodemographic indicators, medication use, hospitalisations, mortality risks, and causes of death using the Australian Rheumatology Association Database (ARAD); trajectory analysis of the derived 28-joint disease activity score patient-reported components (DAS28-P) index as a measure of treatment response in an early RA cohort; intensive longitudinal data analysis (multilevel modelling and Markov transition analyses) on pain variability in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases using a large UK-based mobile health study (‘Cloudy With a Chance of Pain’); and a systematic review on the efficacy and safety of gout flare prophylaxis and treatment in people with chronic kidney disease (a Gout, Hyperuricaemia and Crystal-Associated Disease Network (G-CAN)-initiated project). 

At present, Jessica is a Panel member for the Australian Rheumatology Association Living Guideline Development (2020-current) and is currently undertaking a project to project the future burden of back pain in Australia. She is also currently completing a project examining the volatility across updated rheumatology guideline recommendations.
