Biography

Jessica Lesjak joined Monash University in the role as DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) lecturer in February 2024. She is the DAAD contact person for all students and researchers at Monash University for questions and advice on studying, teaching and research in Germany. In European Studies, Jessica teaches German language and culture tutorials from introductory to advanced level, contributes to curriculum development, and organises outreach events.

Jessica Lesjak holds a M.A. in Applied Linguistics (German / English) from TU Dortmund University, studied teaching German as a foreign and second language (GFL / GSL), and has been teaching GFL / GSL since 2007 in Germany, the U.S., Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, and now Australia.

Her research interests are in Applied Linguistics with a focus on pragmatics of spoken language, teaching German as a foreign language, and multilingualism.

Current research topics:

- Grammar (pragmatics) of German lexeme so (PhD thesis)
- Linguistic landscaping projects in Vietnam (HCMC, Hanoi)
- Post-colonial criticism through (language) art
- Science slam and interdisciplinarity in the German L2 classroom
