Biography
Dr Jessica Botfield is a clinician-researcher with research and clinical expertise in sexual and reproductive health. She is a Research Fellow with the SPHERE NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Women in Primary Care at Monash University, and a Senior Research Officer at Family Planning NSW. She holds honorary appointments with the School of Medicine & Public Health at the University of Newcastle and the Centre for Social Research in Health at UNSW Australia. Jessica's PhD was conferred in February 2019, exploring the engagement of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds with sexual and reproductive health care. She is a qualitative and mixed method researcher, and has experience working in academic, non-government and clinical settings. Her research interests focus on promoting equitable access to contraception, pregnancy options and abortion care; task-sharing and nurse- and midwifery-led models of care; and health services research and evaluation. Jessica was awarded the ASHA Young Leader Award in 2018 in recognition of her contributions to sexual health, and an Emerging Leaders Fellowship with the Women’s Health Research Translation Network in 2021.
