Biography

Dr Jennifer Reilly is a specialist anaesthetist at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. The main study of her PhD is to develop a risk calculator to predict mortality among adults having non-cardiac surgery in Australia. The calculator is based on the Surgical Outcome Risk Tool (SORT) from the UK and its New Zealand adaptation, NZRISK.

Based on pilot work undertaken during 2019, she established a pilot national perioperative outcomes registry in early 2020 to facilitate quality assurance, research and risk prediction modelling. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, her methodology for mortality risk prediction model development changed to using a large hospital administrative data set from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
