Biography

Dr Jennifer Bowen has an extensive career in audio media. She was a producer and Editor with the BBC World Service before returning to Australia where she has produced over 20 narrative features for the ABC. She has been awarded at the New York International Radio festival and nominated by the British Radio Academy. She was part of the Australian Generations oral history project, a collaboration of universities and the National Library of Australia, and has produced online and audio material for the National Film and Sound Archives. Her PhD at the University of Melbourne developed an original understanding of public interest groups in early broadcasting in Australia, leading to the publication of book chapters and journal articles. She is committed to developing strong links between theory and practice in her teaching of audio media, exploring innovative approaches to storytelling and social justice.
