Biography

Jeffrey S. Brooks is Professor of Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. He is a J. William Fulbright Senior Scholar alumnus who has conducted studies in the United States, the Philippines and Thailand. His research focuses broadly on educational leadership, and he examines the way leaders influence (and are influenced by) dynamics such as racism, globalization distributed leadership social justice school reform. He is author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, two full-length books (including the award-winning Black School, White School: Racism and Educational (Mis)leadership) and he has edited or co-edited seven scholarly volumes.

Dr. Brooks is author of two full-length books based on his research: The Dark Side of School Reform: Teaching in the Space between Reality and Utopia (Rowman and Littlefield Education) and Black School, White School: Racism and Educational (Mis)leadership (Teachers College Press). He is also co-editor of the volumes What Every Principal Needs to Know to Create Equitable and Excellent Schools(with George Theoharis), Confronting Racism in Higher Education: Problems and Possibilities for Fighting Ignorance, Bigotry and Isolation and Anti-Racist School Leadership: Toward Equity in Education for America's Students (both with Noelle Witherspoon Arnold). Dr. Brooks has written articles in leading educational research journals, including Teachers College Record, Educational Administration Quarterly,Educational Policy, Journal of Educational Administration, Science Education, Journal of Research on Leadership in Education, and the Journal of Values and Ethics in Educational Administration. He has also contributed many chapters to scholarly edited volumes and written several entries for reference works. Dr. Brooks is Series Editor for the Educational Leadership for Social Justice book series. He has served in several leadership positions in universities and educational research organizations, including AERA Division A (Administration, Organizations and Leadership) and the AERA Leadership for Social Justice Special Interest Group.
