Biography

Jason Beech is Senior Lecturer in Education Policy in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. He is interested in understanding how ideas about education are developed in global educational spaces and influence education policies and practices in different parts of the world. His research has analysed the work of organisations such as Unesco, the World Bank, OECD, private for profit organisations and other actors that contribute to the construction of dominant discourses about education, that define a language and certain possibilities and limitations to think about education.

He is also interested in understanding how these global discourses are transformed as they are translated into policies and practies, and has studied the trajectory of global discourses and policies in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia and Costa Rica. In his research he has worked with some of the theoretical apparatus developed by Michel Foucault, with spatial theories and with socio-material thinking. He has also written and is passionate about the challenges of educating for global citizenship and a sustainable future.

Prior to joining Monash he was Associate Professor in the School of Education at Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina. He is currently visiting professor at San Andrés, where is also Director of a Unesco Chair in Education for Global Citizenship and Sustainability. He is Associate Editor of Education Policy Analysis Archives, and has taught in several universities in the Americas, Europe and Australia.
