Personal profile

Dr Janine Trevillyan is an infectious diseases physician and early career researcher with an emerging reputation in non-infectious HIV-related co-morbidities. Her infectious diseases fellowship was completed at the eminent clinical and research centers of the Alfred and Austin Hospitals in Melbourne, Australia and she then secured faculty appointments at the same institutions. She completed a PhD (Monash University) in 2015 following which she was awarded a highly competitive NHMRC early career fellowship which has supported a two year placement at the University of California, Los Angeles from July 2016. Dr Trevillyan’s research focuses on the pathogenesis and prevention of HIV associated co-morbidities, and particularly HIV and antiretroviral associated cardiovascular disease. This has included the initiation and coordination of a large multi-national randomized controlled trial assessing the impact of statins on atherosclerosis in HIV positive individuals at intermediate cardiovascular risk which has completed recruitment (final data mid-2018). She has ongoing projects investigating the impact of abacavir on platelet function, the predictors of chronic kidney injury in HIV positive individuals, and the contribution of bacterial co-infection to the progression of coronary artery disease, and a new focus on implementing preventative strategies in at risk populations.
