Biography

Janet is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Monash University, contributing to the NHMRC Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre project to optimise quality use of medicines for people with cognitive and related functional decline. Janet's research interests include quality use of medicines, pharmacoepidemiology, quality improvement, stroke and cognitive decline. Janet is a registered pharmacist with recent clinical experience in the acute care setting.

Janet was awarded her PhD in 2014. Her PhD research focused on the use of routinely collected health data to monitor quality of care for transient ischaemic attack and ischaemic stroke patients. Janet's thesis was awarded the UniSA Division of Health Sciences Postgraduate Thesis Prize in 2015.

Following her PhD, Janet undertook postdoctoral research at the Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Research Centre, University of South Australia. Janet worked on a national quality improvement program (Veterans' MATES) that uses administrative health claims data to improve medicines use and health outcomes for Australian veterans. She also contributed to a scoping review of medication safety in mental health for the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.

In 2015, Janet received an Endeavour Research Fellowship to undertake pharmacoepidemiological research using the Kaiser Permanente National Implant Registries in San Diego, California.

Janet maintains an active interest in clinical practice and is accredited to perform medicines reviews. She is a member of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia SA/NT Branch Committee and the Cautionary Advisory Label Working Group for the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook. Janet is a member of the Editorial Board for Drugs-Real World Outcomes and Assistant Editor, Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research.
