Biography

Dr. Jane Terpstra Tong is a professor of management at Monash University Malaysia. Concurrently, she serves as a Co-Director of the Campus' (Future) Southeast Asian Centre for Workplace Wellbeing and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Asian Business and Management. 

Jane is a cross-cultural management researcher, studying organizational behavior from a cross-cultural perspective. Her current research projects center on gender differences using a multilevel modelling approach. Her research publications appear in top-tier international journals that include Journal of Vocational Behaviour, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Management and Asia-Pacific Journal of Management.

Jane is an experienced and competent educator. She has received multiple awards and recognitions from Monash Malaysia and Monash Australia. Most recently, she received an individual award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (2023), and two presidential awards in teaching excellence: the Vice-Chancellor's Award of Teaching Excellence (2020) and the Pro-Vice Chancellor and President’s Award of Outstanding Educator (2019). Additionally, Jane conducted corporate training and master classes on leadership, organizational culture, and diversity and inclusion for multinational enterprises in the ASEAN region. 

At Monash, Jane had a few significant leadership appointments that include Deputy Head of School (Education) (2019-2023), Head of Department (2016-2018), and Course Director, Master of International Business (2009-2012). 

She completed an MBA and a bachelor degree in political science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a PhD in management at The University of Manchester, UK. Additionally, she holds a postgraduate diploma in education from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
