Biography

Ts. Dr. Janarthanan Supramaniam received his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology Industry (B.HONS) from the University Selangor and a master's degree in Industrial Science from the University Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia. His master's research focused on cultivating marine microalgae for carbon dioxide bioremediation and biodiesel feedstock production.

Subsequently, he joined Indah Water Konsortium, Malaysia's national sewerage company, as a research and development executive, where he worked for 7 years before pursuing his PhD at Monash University Malaysia in 2018. His PhD research concentrated on developing a novel multifunctional rubber glove with self-healing capabilities and high resistance to hazardous chemicals.

Following his PhD, Dr. Janarthanan joined Hartalega Holdings as a researcher in the Innovation Department, serving for 1 year. In 2022, he began his research career at the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia.

Additionally, Dr. Janarthanan is an HRD Corp-certified trainer, specializing in occupational health, including first aid and CPR techniques. He is registered professional chemical technologist under MBOT and Co-Advisor to American Chemical Society Monash University Malaysia International Student Chapter. His research interests are in the development of advanced polymers for biomedical applications, particularly surface functionalization to promote antibacterial activity and enhance chemical resistance in polymeric products, rubber composite nanofillers, biodegradable polymers, and metal oxide synthesis. He also has experience in microalgae research, particularly in the development of photobioreactors for cultivation, bioremediation of wastewater and carbon dioxide, and biofuel feedstock production.
