Biography

Dr Deane studies the biology of epithelial cells in the uterus and the kidney. Epithelial cells form a layer lining glandular and tubular strucutres in these organs and are involved in regenerative processes after injury and during the normal female reproductive cycle. Understanding the regenerative capacity of epithelial cells in the uterus will aid the treatment of infertility and conditions such as endometriosis. Characterising epithelial regeneration mechanisms in the kidney may identify methods of hastening recovery from acute renal injury and provide insight into the epithelial defects causing polycystic kidney disease.
