Biography
Professor Jake Shortt is the Head of Haematology Research in the Department of Medicine at the School of Clinical Sciences and the Clinical Director of Monash Health Haematology. He is Principal Investigator on a range of clinical trials for T-cell lymphoma and myeloid malignancies, conducted through the Monash Haematology clinical trials unit.
Professor Shortt is the recipient of a National Health & Medical Research Council Emerging Leadership Fellowship. His translational work in the School of Clinical Sciences is focused on strategies incorporating epigenetic drugs with immunotherapy in haematological cancers, particularly lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He heads the Blood Cancer Therapeutics laboratory within the Monash Health Translation Precinct, facilitating bench-to-bedside research in order to progress these new treatments into the haematology clinic.
In addition to his clinical roles, Professor Shortt co-chairs the Monash Health Research Strategy and Governance Committee, is a member of the Barry Dalgeish Centre for Myeloma and Related Blood Cancers Scientific Advisory Committee and a member of the Cancer Council Victoria Research Subcommittee.
Clinical activities
Professor Shortt is the Clinical Director of Haematology services at Monash Health. His clinical trial portfolio includes studies in chronic myeloid leukaemia, myelodysplasia and T-cell lymphoma. He attends the Monash Haematology myeloid disorders clinic and looks after Haematology inpatients at Monash Health.
