Biography

Dr. Ivan Butar is an Associate Professor of Business Innovation at Monash University Indonesia. His research explores the intersection of technology, innovation, and organisations, with a particular focus on how emerging technologies reshape work, leadership, and organisational performance.

 

He holds a PhD in Management from Monash Business School and has received international recognition for his doctoral research, including the Emerald–EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award (UK) and the Greenleaf Scholars Award (USA). His research has been presented at leading international conferences, including the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, and published in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Personnel Review, Energy, Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy, and Environment, Development and Sustainability.

 

Dr. Butar brings a unique combination of academic, industry, and leadership experience. He has led and contributed to consulting, executive education, and research projects with organisations across Australia and Indonesia, including McDonald’s Australia, Nestlé Australia, Palladium Australia, Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Aneka Tambang, Bank Central Asia (BCA), Bank Indonesia, Generali Indonesia, and Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (Apindo).

 

Prior to joining Monash University Indonesia, he held academic appointments at the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, the University of Arizona, and Sampoerna University, where he served as Dean of the Business School. His work is driven by a commitment to bridging rigorous research with practical impact for organisations and industries.
