Biography

With an Intensive Care Nursing (locally and abroad) and postgraduate Critical Care Course Coordinator background, Irwyn has been involved in simulation-based healthcare education since 1992 and has received many grants supporting this activity. Irwyn has been involved in a number of simulation centre design and developments including staff recruitment and development, curriculum and course development, conference presentations locally and internationally, consultancies for health services, universities and product vendors, simulation product evaluation, simulation education research and cited journal and book chapter publications.  His current activities include the development of an Augmented Reality – Virtual Reality platform that will offer capability, scalability and sustainability, negotiating how the education principles of simulation can be applied in a range of disciplines at an enterprise level in a university, including where simulation sits in the assessment space and specifically in Work Integrated Learning.  Irwyn is currently providing project lead or support for a range of AR or VR grant-supported projects in Social Science, Biological Science, Health, Engineering, Information Technology and Arts.  

 

Along with his Nursing, Postgraduate Intensive Care Nursing Diploma and Cert IV (Training and Assessment) qualifications, Irwyn holds a B. App.Sci.(Latrobe), an MEd (Melbourne) and EdD (Victoria).
