Biography

Inhi Kim received his Ph.D. degree from Department of Civil Engineering, The University of Queensland, Australia in early 2014.  His research topic was to identify the three most promising low cost interventions to improve safety at grade railway crossings with the CARRS-Q driving simulator and traffic simulation (Vissim). Following his PhD achievement, he continued doing research on various topics including public transportation, user’s satisfaction, an evaluation of multi-lane roundabouts and a mode choice at Qatar University, Doha, Qatar as a post-doctoral research fellow in rest of 2014. In early 2015, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University as a lecturer. His position, while based in China and Australia, will support the Master of Transportation Systems to be taught at the Southeast University Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China.

Before joining The University of Queensland, Inhi worked in German transport software company, PTV Group as a transport engineer and planner. He gained 5 year experience in industry whilst based in Australia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and Korea. He was also part of the team, which developed the Vissim pedestrian simulation (an early version of Viswalk). In the company, he was closely involved with transport and traffic planning and modeling, evaluation, and performance measurement of transport programs and projects as a practitioner, research and trainer.

Supervision interests

Dr. Kim has particular interests and skills in the areas of demand forecasting, strategic planning, traffic signal operation, logistics, public transportation planning, safety in conjunction with the integration of traffic simulation and driving simulator, and an evaluation of connected cars in safety and efficiency.

Monash teaching commitment

Currently Dr. Kim is teaching 2 units; Intelligent transportation systems: Engineering and management and Sustainable transportation systems planning in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Southeast University-Monash Joint Master Program in Suzhou, China
