Helen Johnson is a visual artist and trainee art therapist.


Selected solo exhibitions include Agency at Pilar Corrias, London, 2019; Ends at the New Museum, New York, 2017; Warm Ties at the ICA, London, Chapter Arts House, Cardiff and Artspace, Sydney, 2017-18; and Barron Field as part of the 2016 Glasgow International. In 2015 she published Painting is a Critical Form, developed from a PhD in Fine Art completed at Monash University. She is represented by Château Shatto in Los Angeles, Pilar Corrias in London and Sutton Gallery in Melbourne.


Selected group exhibitions include Painting. More Painting at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2016; TarraWarra Biennial: Endless Circulation at the TarraWarra Museum of Art, Victoria, 2016; Pleasure and Reality at the National Gallery of Victoria, 2015; In my absence at Galerie Jocelyn Wolff, Paris, 2015; June: A Painting Show at Sadie Coles, London, 2015; Care at Interstate Projects, New York, 2015; Just Paintings (in collaboration with George Egerton Warburton and Hamishi Farah) at Westspace, Melbourne, 2014.


Helen completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2002 and a PhD in Fine Art at Monash University in 2014.  Her PhD thesis was published in 2015 by 3Ply books under the title Painting is a Critical Form. Helen is currently undertaking a Master of Art Therapy at Latrobe University.
