Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Peninsula Campus. I was an early childhood teacher in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico where I was born. I travelled to Australia to undertake postgraduate studies at Monash University. I have been in the Faculty of Education since 2011.

I have taugh in units such as research teaching and learning, change and transitions, play and pedagogy, place and space in early childhood education.

Research interests

My research is primarily within the early childhod field and is underpinned by cultural-histoircal and posthuman approaches.My approach to research is through the use of visual qualitative methodologies such as video digital observations, images and drawing.

Recent reseach has focused on conceptualising infant-toddler affective and play pedagogies.

My research agenda includes:

  • Enhancing health and wellbeing by understanding children's emotional wellbeing and their peer relations and friendships in early childhood education. My research focuses on educators emotional and social wellbeing in early childhood education and care.
  • Transforming teaching and learning by exploring place and space pedagogical perspectives. My research focuses on investigating collaborative menotring practices between pre-service teachers and mentors during early childhood professional experience in early childhood education.
  • Educating for diversity and inclusion by researching early childhood pedagogical practices with emphasis on pre-service teachers, educators and children diverse backgrounds and in multicultural communities in Australia, Mexico, Vietnam and Nepal.

Recent research publications include:

  • An authored book with Megan Adams that aims to explore children’s friendships, Collaborative Pathways to Friendship in Early Childhood, A Cultural-historical Perspective (2020).
  • Co-edited book with Avis Ridgway and Liang Li that aims to explore peer relations in play, Peer Play and Relationships in Early Childhood International Research Perspectives (2020).

  • Sustainable practices in early childhood education in Australia
