Biography
Dr Geri Ooi is an early career Senior Lecturer in Monash University and Upper GI and General Surgeon at Monash Health.
She completed her PhD in obesity, metabolic disease and bariatric surgery in 2019. She remains active in clinical and translational research, as well as surgical education. Her ongoing research interests are in the interaction between obesity and gastrointestinal cancer care, sarcopaenia microplastics in humans, gastric cancer heterogeneity and quality improvement in general surgery.
Dr Ooi finished her General Surgical training at Alfred and Austin Health in 2019, and was subsequently admitted into further subspecialty training with the AANZ Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA) training program from 2020-2021. She went overseas in 2022-2023 to complete a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Dr Ooi is an active member of the Academic Surgery Committee for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), as well as the Younger Fellows Committee. She is a hospital supervisor of Surgical Training at Monash Health and develops surgical curriculum for the Monash University Medical Course.
