Biography
Gerrie has lectured in statistics for over 30 years with the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. A significant proportion of this time has been spent lecturing in the MBA program. Gerrie has received numerous teaching excellence awards, including The Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award (2004, 2006, 2021) and the Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence (2008).
Professionally, Gerrie combines her two passions as a vocational educator in statistics and in industry, for 25 years, Gerrie has also been a senior analyst with Forethought; Australia’s most awarded marketing research firm.
Gerrie is a member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS) and has contributed over 50 articles to their monthly magazine ‘Research News’. These monthly contributions are written for practitioners focusing on applied statistics and by popular demand, were published in a Statistics e-Book to make it easier for researchers to reference the articles, either for personal professional development or in formal settings. Gerrie’s national launch of this e-Book was well received by many AMSRS members, evidenced by this sample of feedback reported in the Queensland branch newsletter:
“Gerrie has the ability to talk just as passionately about the complex as the simple when it comes to analysing numerical data. Most importantly, she reminds us of why we’re doing it in the first place - to help answer the information needs of decision makers.”
Most recently, Gerrie has challenged the didactic dogma of the lecture theatre bringing to it an entirely new, technology-supported operating model, which has resulted in a marked improvement in student learning outcomes, engagement and participation.
