Personal profile

Biography

I was born in Mexico City, where I lived until 2004. I moved to Australia in 2004 to do my undegraduate degree. I did a PhD in Creative Writing at Monash University.

My research focuses on Cultural Literacy. This is a new, interdisciplinary field that sees cultures as texts that can be read in a variety of ways. I use literary texts (mostly in translation), as “keys” to understand how different cultures work. My other research interests include Global Studies, Translation, World Literature and Comparative Literature, and Latin American Literature, in particular metafiction and the works of Jorge Luis Borges.
