Biography

Dr. Akowuah graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Diploma in Education in 1994 from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He worked at St Augustine’s College, Cape Coast Ghana from 1994 to 1997 then went on to pursue his master's and doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Science Malaysia. Dr Akowuah was appointed as an academic lecturer in pharmaceutical chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UCSI University, Malaysia in January 2004. Dr. Akowuah developed the Master of Pharmaceutical, Bachelor of Formulation Science (Honours), and the Diploma in Packaging Science and Technology programs during his years as Head of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department at UCSI University.  Dr. Akowuah's research is in the field of development and validation of analytical and bioanalytical methods, pharmacokinetic interactions, and inhibitory effects of bioactive compounds on nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells.  He was awarded University Sains Malaysia, Anugerah Sanggar Sanjung in 2005, Kategori Produk Penyelidikan. He also won the Bronze Medal at ITEX 2005, for his contribution to the research on anti-tumour agents from Orthosiphon stamineus Benth., extracts standardized to betulinic acid. He has published 6 book chapters and several articles in ISI and SCOPUS-indexed journals. He has also served as an external examiner for the evaluation of more than 15 Ph.D. theses. In 2023, Dr Akowuah Joined Monash University Malaysia, as an academic researcher.
