Filip is an evolutionary biologist interested in linking empirical patterns of genomic variation with theories of adaptation. His work typically combines computational and experimental approaches. He has previously used genome-wide association studies to investigate the genetic basis of sex-specific fitness in D. melanogaster, population genomic methods to identify signatures of sexually antagonistic selection, and experiments to test the predicted effects of individual candidate genes. He is also interested in a number of related questions, including: contrasts between X chromosome and autosomal evolution, processes that underpin the evolution of inversions, and the role of dominance in adaptation. He works in collaboration with Tim Connallon.
