Biography
Dr. Farid Zaid is an accomplished academic and cognitive psychologist with a uniquely multidisciplinary background spanning mathematics, econometrics, moral philosophy, and psychology. As the Director of the Graduate Diploma of Psychology (GDP) at Monash University, he oversees Australia’s largest psychology program, leading transformative curriculum initiatives that bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries to foster interdisciplinary learning and critical thinking. His innovative teaching philosophy prioritises intellectual resilience, ethical engagement, and open dialogue, equipping students with the skills to navigate the complexities of both professional and societal challenges.
Farid’s diverse expertise extends beyond academia. He has previously worked as a management consultant in the private sector, where he applied advanced mathematical and econometric methods to solve complex organisational challenges and design evidence-based strategies for business growth. This industry experience has informed his academic approach, enabling him to integrate real-world problem-solving into his teaching and research. His academic specialisations include probability and statistics, perception and cognition, and the societal and psychological dimensions of moral reasoning, with a profound commitment to open inquiry, academic freedom, and constructive disagreement.
