Biography

Emmanuel (Manos) Stamatakis is Professor of physical activity, lifestyle and population health at Monash's Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health. He joined Monash in April 2026, having previously been the founding Director of the Mackenzie Wearables Research Hub at the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), where he also led the CPC's Physical Activity and Exercise Theme betywen 2019 and 2026. He has initiated and leads major programs investigating the health impacts of physical activity, sleep, and sedentary behaviour across large cohort studies and international wearable-data consortia, including the ProPASS consortium. With more than 450 peer-reviewed publications as of md 2026,  >55K citations and repeated recognition on Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers list, he has ranked among the top 0.1% of cited researchers globally since 2019. His work has contributed to global physical activity guidelines and health policy, and he served as co-Chair of the World Health Organization's Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines Development Group in 2020. He is currently an NHMRC Leadership 3 Fellow and Director of BrainPark at Monash University.
