Biography
Ms Ellaine Boo is the Head of International Programs at The National Trauma Research Institute. Ms Boo was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Alfred Trauma Services & Emergency departments and has worked at The Alfred hospital for 15 years. She has completed Diploma of Nursing Science in Emergency Nursing and Masters of Nursing – Research Methods at La Trobe University. Ms Boo has undertaken further study at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, Boston, USA and is currently working towards an MBA at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.
Currently, Ms Boo is collaborating with Nursing Education (Alfred Health) and Department of Nursing (Monash University) to develop the Master of Advanced Nursing – Trauma Care. She has substantial experience in facilitating and organising trauma education & resuscitation courses in Australia and overseas. Ms Boo and Professor Mark Fitzgerald have developed a one day Trauma Resuscitation – The Initial Approach Course. This course has been delivered in China, Myanmar, Philippines and India.
Ms Boo is also actively involved in the development of trauma systems in East Asia and the Middle East. She has developed and delivered programs to improve trauma systems capacity in Huizhou First Hospital (HFH) and Longgang Central Hospital (LCH), China, King Saud Medical College, Saudi Arabia and Tamil Nadu State, India. She has coordinated AusAID Public Services Linkage Program grant to improve hospital trauma reception and resuscitation in Yangon General Hospital, Myanmar and Philippines General Hospital (PGH), Philippines.
Ms Boo’s research focus is on the capability of developing countries in setting up trauma systems.
