Biography

Professor Dragan Ilic is the Deputy Head (Education) of the School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine (SPHPM). He is also the Director of Teaching & Learning and Head of the Medical Education Research & Quality (MERQ) unit at the SPHPM. Dragan is responsible for leading the education portfolio at SPHPM, including undergraduate, post-graduate and professional education programs. He is actively involved as an educator, coordinating several units in research methods and evidence-based practice (EBP), as well as course coordination. Dragan is Chair of the Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) sub-committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Education (FMNHS) committee. 

Dragan is recognised nationally and internationally for his expertise in public health, EBP and health professions education research. He is a board member of the International Society of Evidence-based Health Care (ISEBHC) and executive council member of the Society for Cost and Value in Health Professions Education (SCVHPE). He sits on a variety of health professions journals, including the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions as Reviews Editor.

As an educational leader, Dragan has focused on fostering a holistic and integrated approach to academic excellence, student and staff experience and innovation, underpinned by an evidence-based approach to learning and teaching. His educational leadership has been instrumental in shaping effective organisational policies, strategies, curriculum and course design and implementation, all of which support and promote high-quality teaching and learning environments.

Dragan has received several awards highlighting his commitment to education including the 2022 Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia (CAPHIA) medal, 2023 Monash University FMNHS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education & Leadership, and Industry & Community Programs (team), and the 2024 Monash University Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award for Educational Leadership.
