Biography

Professor of Practice Flynn has expertise in the commercial and academic applications of Industrial Design in healthcare. Her commercial experience includes working with Invetech and with Philips Design, the design group within Philips. A ten year period with Invetech included designing Histopathology equipment for Leica amongst other scientific and medical products in multidisciplinary teams. Prior to joining Monash University, she was based in the Asian Pacific region for 15 years managing business and design development for Philips Design over various locations and different teams. While based in Singapore with the Asian & Pacific market team, Philips healthcare, a regional hospital group and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Flynn led the user centred design development program of remote patient monitoring and chronic disease management pilot program, informing Philips telehealth solutions. 

Since 2015 Flynn has been founding Co-Director of Monash University Design Health Collab, an interdisciplinary research lab at the intersection of Design and Health.  Her research takes place at the center of the complex ecosystem of health services including patients, clinicians, nurses, device manufacturers, medical researchers, engineers, and healthcare management.  People-centered design research is the preferred approach to understanding and activating significant, high- impact healthcare services and products in the world.
