Biography
Daniel Rolnik is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University, Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Consultant Obstetrician at Monash Health. He completed medical training and specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, followed by subspecialty training in Fetal Medicine at the Fetal Medicine Foundation and King's College Hospital, London, UK, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Monash University. He also holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Harvard University.
Professor Rolnik's research focuses on improving pregnancy outcomes through the prediction, prevention and management of obstetric complications, with particular interests in pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, prenatal screening, fetal medicine, obstetric ultrasound, and the application of epidemiology, biostatistics and artificial intelligence to maternal and perinatal healthcare.
He has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications, with an H-index exceeding 40 and more than 12,000 citations. His research has been published in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Human Reproduction, and Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology and the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, and is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG).
Professor Rolnik has led international collaborative studies and multicentre clinical trials, including the landmark ASPRE trial on first trimester screening and prevention of pre-eclampsia, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which has influenced clinical practice worldwide and has been cited more than 3,000 times. He received the 2023 Top Australian Researcher in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Award and continues to lead clinical and translational research advancing precision obstetrics and improving maternal and perinatal outcomes.
