Biography
Professor of Pharmaceutical Biology, Theme Leader: Drug Delivery, Disposition and Dynamics, Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University (based at Monash Parkville Campus)
Research interests
- Use of stem cells, and cells derived by differentiation of stem cells, in drug discovery.
- Differentiation of pluripotent stem cells to derive brain cells (particularly neurons and microglia)
- Stem cell derived models of neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinsosn's and Alzheimer's diseases)
- Design and performance of delivery systems for nucleic acid therapeutics (DNA and RNA).
- Lipid-based delivery systems for oral delivery of poorly water-soluble drugs and oral peptides.
Monash teaching commitment
I have responsibility for teaching programs in our BPharm, new MPharm, and BPharm SCi degree programs. As a member of the Faculty Executive I assist in allocation of staff workload across various units.
I teach into units involving virology, biotechnology, formulations of small molecule drugs and biotech products, cancer biology and general methods in molecular biology.
I teach postgraduate students throughout the academic calendar year - currently I co-supervise 16 PhD students
Expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals
