Personal profile

Research interests

I am a botanist, researcher and educator with a demonstrated history of working in the field, laboratory and lecture hall. As a researcher, I am interested in plant taxonomy, ecology and conservation. My current research focuses on using genomic approaches to study the impact of ecology, genetics and changing climates on the success of native species and invasive weeds. I also specialize in ecological modeling of plant species using GIS techniques, and molecular dating of phylogenetic trees. My GIS and analytical skills are paired with years of field experience that include biodiversity surveys, targeted species searches, weed assessments, habitat hectares assessments and desktop surveys for government, indigenous groups, academic bodies, and industry. I have a specialized knowledge of the flora and ecology of southeast Australia, as well as the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions of North America. I also have many years of experience lecturing in tertiary education, including courses on Australian vegetation, ecology, and plant taxonomy.
