Biography

A former Australian Commonwealth Scholar from Sri Lanka, Chandani Lokuge is currently Associate Professor in Creative Writing and Literary Studies. The Creative Writing Higher Degree Research Degrees were established at Monash under her directorship, and she was Deputy Associate Dean (Global Engagement) in the Faculty of Arts from 2012-13 (incl).

Among Chandani’s international appointments are the Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack Chair in Australian Studies at Freie University Berlin (2012), and Le Studium International Research Chair (Ceative Writing) at Le Studium Advanced Studies Institute Loire Valley (2012). She also held guest professorships at Goethe University Frankfurt (2015), and Harvard University’s Humanities Centre in (2008).

Among Chandani's 16 book publications are her novel, Softly as I leave you (Sri Lanka's Godage Naitonal Literary Award for Best Novel 2013) and book of essays, Mediating Literary Borders: Asian Australian Writing (Routledge 2018). She is the Editor of the Oxford Classics Reissues series.

Chandani has supervised 19 PhD/MA students in Creative Writing and Literary Studies to successful completion. She is available for supervision in both these fields.
