Biography

Dr Huggins is a nutrition scientist with skills highly relevant to lead research translation in the field of nutrition. After obtaining a PhD in nutritional physiology from The University of Melbourne she transitioned to post-doctoral training in applied nutrition research. She now holds an NHMRC Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) fellowship that seeks to change the way nutrition care is delivered to people with upper gastrointestinal cancer.

Kate is a past scholar from the National Institute of Health (NIH) Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation Science in Health (2018), and from the Monash-Havard Macy Institute for leadership in Innovation in Healthcare (2016). These unique skills place her at the interface of experimental and translational research. Kate applies her fundamental training in systems physiology to address complex problems in healthcare. Strong collaborations with leading researchers and healthcare provider partnerships has led to successful project funding from the Victorian Cancer Agency, the Heart Foundation and the NHMRC.

Kate is the course leader for the Bachelor of Nutrition (Honours) and unit coordinator for NUT3004 Nutrition Controversies.
