Biography

Carla Wilkin is a Professor of Accounting and Deputy Dean Accreditation and International in Monash Business School, Monash University, Australia. She has previously held positions at The University of Melbourne and Deakin University. In 2021, Carla received the Notable Contribution to the Accounting Information Systems Literature Award, awarded by the American Accounting Association. 

Carla's major research interests concern: exploration of the relationship between corporate governance and IT governance; governing enterprise systems for business value; issues concerning enterprise risk management; management control and AIS; professional skepticism in auditors; and accounting educationHer research has been funded by bodies including the Australian Research Council.  An active researcher, she has published in leading journals including: Journal of Information Systems, British Accounting Review, European Journal of Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, IT & People, Journal of Accounting Education, Accounting Education, Accounting and Finance, Education + Training, and Journal of Vocational Education and Training amongst others.

Since joining Monash University, Carla has contributed to the Monash workplace and culture, serving as: Vice President of Academic Board 2022-2023 and member of Academic Board for multiple terms; member of Academic Board Steering Committee; Member of the University Honorary Degrees Committee; Chair and Member, Academic Heads Network; Deputy Head of Department; Director of Learning and Teaching; Coordinator of the Master of Accounting; Director of Research; PhD Coordinator; a chair of the Faculty Discipline Committee; and a member of APC.

Similarly, a consistent theme in her track record is generating related positive impacts beyond Monash through engagement with practitioners, professional bodies and the broader community. Examples include: Chair and Member of the Chairs of Accounting and Finance Forum for Australia and New Zealand; Chair and Member of CPA Australia’s Professional Education Advisory Committee; engagement in industry workshops and sharing of her research findings that generate impact beyond academia; and journal editorial roles including Senior Editor, Editor and Editorial Board Member.
