Personal profile
Biography
I am a research fellow within the Emerging Technologies Research Lab, and IT for Sustainability coordinator for the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash. My research sits at the intersection of Human Computer Interaction, Science and Technology Studies, and Participatory Design. I am particularly interested in how creative, critical and participatory design methods can support marginalised groups, particularly children and young people, participate in social and environmental sustainability initiatives.
I am currently leading three research projects:
Platform cooperativism and domestic work, which aims to explore how ICT-mediated cooperative approaches can be designed to support the social, cultural and economic empowerment of female domestic workers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This project is part of PROTIC II (CI Gillian Oliver) and a collaboration between Monash University, Oxfam Bangladesh, Morshed Mannan (European University Institute), and Seuty Sabur (BRAC University).
Our Water Stories: In collaboration with filmmaker Rowena Potts, I am using film-based methodologies to unveil children's everyday experiences with water and the implications for future educational and technological innovation.
Designing for youth resilience: Part of the Fire to Flourish program, our team of education and design researchers are collaborating with children and young people across four communities in Australia to understand their priorities post-disaster, and codesign initiatives in respose to these priority areas.
Research interests include:
- Participatory design and ethnographic methods
- Co-design and innovation of ICT
- Sustainability, place and environment.
- Climate change and water literacy
- Civic engagement and participation of children and youth
- Platform cooperativism
- Data & Society
