Personal profile

Biography

I am a First Nations theatre maker, writer, storyteller and scholar. Descendant of the Wailwan people (NW NSW) and the son of a member of the Stolen Generation, my work focuses on the confluence of contemporary theatre practice (primarily verbatim performance and ethnodrama) and Indigenous ways of Knowing, Being and Doing through embodied, human knowledge systems based in movement and orality.

I recieved both a Fulbright and American Australia Association scholarship to attend New York University's prestigious Verbatim Performance Lab, where I trained under Joe Salvatore, before Indigenising the practice to serve First Nations Truth Speaking.

Research interests

I seek to further examine the efficacy of Indigenous Human system of Knowledge exchange in the making and dissemination of research findings, while also applying my contemporary practice in the service of remote communities in Central North and West New South Wales, and revitalising traditional practice with contemporarily relevant forms.

Monash teaching commitment

My primary focus and passion is face to face teaching, in which I seek to deliver a more embodied experience within pedagogy by employing activities to suppot learning away from screens and worksheets.

Consulting

I cuurently consult for television series' that include First Nations content or resresentation.

Community service

I continue to serve my Wailwan and broader Pilliga Minnon communities through supporting creative programs and exploring the archives for recorded artefacts that emerged from the Ancestors of the community.
