Biography

Dr. Binh Ta currently works as a lecturer and research fellow, Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University. 

Dr Ta is an emerging international expert in Conversation Analysis, with 17 publications (seven as first author, six as second, four as third author), including a monograph book, an edited book, seven articles in Q1 journals, and numerous book chapters. This is a very high level of productivity in the field of Applied Linguistics, given that Dr Ta has an equivalent of six-month full-time research since PhD graduation. According to ResearchGate, Dr Ta’s research interest score is 110.7, with 73 citations and an h-index of 4. 

Dr Ta’s leadership in research, partnership-building, and education has been recognised by a number of awards. In 2020, Dr Ta led a paper which was awarded the Editors’ Publication Award by Advances in Social Work and Welfare Education Journal. In 2017, Dr Ta led a collaboration project between Monash University and Warwick University, which was awarded the Monash Warwick Alliance Grant. In 2013, Dr Ta was awarded the Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship by the Australian Government. Between 2011-2013, Dr Ta led a curriculum development project involving creating teaching materials for English for Specific Purposes courses in six disciplinary areas at Hanoi National University of Education, and was awarded the University's Excellence Lecturer Award in 2013.

She is currently working on the following projects

  • The ECLIPSe Project - Video taping real-life general practice consultations to explore what makes an ideal consultations from the perspective of low-income patients who are living with obesity
  • The CA research project - Exploring what communication practices are helpful in supporting behaviour change in the Australian primary care context.
  • The NCHA Digital Library project - Creating a national Digital Library of health and social care interactions
