Biography

Anu Ivaturi is an early-career postdoctoral research fellow at Action Lab, Department of Human Centered Computing. Her core areas of expertise include public health nutrition, health promotion and chronic disease prevention. Anu leads the Intake24 (https://intake24.com) vertical at Action Lab. Intake24 is a digital dietary assessment and feedback system.

Anu Ivaturi earner her PhD in Dental Public Health and Nutrition from The University of Adelaide in March 2024. Anu’s PhD research project is an international collaboration between Australia and India. During 2020-23, she worked with the Centre for Chronic Disease Control and HRIDAY-Health-Related Information Dissemination Amongst Youth, a youth NGO in Delhi. The outputs from this research are the first ever dietary data collected from ten schools (400 young adolescents) using Intake24. Her PhD research works report the sources and patterns of energy, macronutrients and free sugars intake. These data were shared with the India National institute of Nutrition (NIN) leading to keen interest in initiating the tasks around localisation of Intake24 system for national dietary surveys in India. Anu also works with the UNICEF Region of South Asia for the assessment of school nutrition environments and the adaptation of the Nutrition Environment and Assessment Toolkit (NEAT) in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Before commencing PhD at the Adelaide Dental School, Anu worked at the Centre for Dental Education and Research (CDER) in Delhi within the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi (AIIMS). CDER Is the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre (WHO-CC) for Oral Health Promotion. As a senior Dental Public Health resident at CDER, Anu led the efforts towards the creation of a sugars knowledge hub which underpinned the need for robust dietary assessment to make sugars intake accountable to informs efforts towards reduction of intake. Anu also contributed to the content development for the Massive Open Online Courses on Oral Health Promotion and Oral Cancer Prevention which are now hosted on OpenWHO.org. Anu worked at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India as a Research Officer for the co-creation of resources for an implementation of the objectives of the National Oral Health Program.

Anu is interested in using digital tools to build capacity of health professionals, policy makers, civil society and researchers for adoption and implementation of effective strategies for the prevention of dietary-related disease burden including dental caries, particularly in CALD communities living in Australia and for younger populations living in India. She has published >10 peer reviewed academic manuscripts, 7 non-traditional research outputs that include media for health promotion, training manuals and guidelines.
