Biography

Antonio currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences and the Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN) at Monash University. He has an Adjunct Honorary Appointment in Turning Point (Eastern Health). He has a PhD in Psychology (University of Granada, 2006), and a Masters in Psychological and Biomedical Aspects of Health and Illness (University of Granada, 2002).  

After obtaining his PhD, Antonio held a post-doctoral fellowship in the Neuroscience Program of the IMIM-Hospital del Mar (Barcelona Biomedical Research Park), where he developed strategic research collaborations in the fields of genetics, neuropharmacology and functional neuroimaging. He was subsequently appointed as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor (Universidad de Granada) before arriving at Monash in 2013.

Antonio's research focuses on the cognitive and neural mechanisms underpinning executive control and decision-making, and their implications for addiction and obesity. He has published > 150 peer-reviewed articles, and his research has been continuously funded via national and international competitive research schemes since 2009. His work has attracted over 7,000 citations and his current h-index is 43. He sits on the Editorial Board of the journals: Addiction (#1 in the Substance Abuse category of the Journal Citation Reports rank), PLoS One, The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Current Addiction Reports, and Adicciones.
