Biography
Prof Anthony Russell (MBBS, PhD, FRACP) is the Director of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Alfred Health. He is Professor in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Prof Russell is an academic clinician and has a research interest in models of care and use of enabling technology.
Prof Russell completed his PhD in adipocyte biology at the University of Queensland in 2004. He was Director of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Princess Alexandra Hospital 2005 to 2021.
Research interests
Professor Russell's research interests are predominantly in the field of diabetes and obesity.
Clinical activities
Professor Russell is a senior endocrinologist. He works in Alfred Health and performs ward service and conducts endocrinology and diabetes clinics. He has established a novel model of integrated care for people with type 2 diabetes at Caulfield Hospital. Prof Russell provides outreach services to the Murray Valley Aboriginal Coop, Robinvale and to the South Melbourne Better Health Network.
Community service
Prof Russell is immediate past president of the Australian Diabetes Society. He remains on the steering committee of the National Association of Diabetes Centres.
