After working in concurrently in the the community health/mental health/alcohol and other drug and education sectors for many years as a psychotherapist, counsellor, counselling supervisor and educator nI commenced teaching in tertiary institutions in 2011.
In 2015 whilst undertaking a PhD through The Bouverie Centre I was offered teaching in The School of Psychology and Public Health at La Trobe University. Whilst teaching part time at La Trobe I continued to work part time in a number of senior positions at Uniting ReGen Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) services which including the provision of counselling supervision and professional development to AOD clinicians, policy writing and the development of an AOD program for people in prison in Victoria.
I n 2019 - 2020 I was also invited to teach Master Classes on research methods (qualiatative) to PhD candidates at Victoria Univiersity with a focus on participatory action, narrative and ethnographic reseach.
In 2021 I commenced work as a Research Fellow in the Healing the Past by Nurturing the Future project, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led participatory action research project which then moved to the Indigenous Health Equity Unit in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne. The project was aimed at improving responses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents who have experiences of complex trauma through the provision of culturally appropriate screening tools and safe, strengths based responses.
In January, 2022 I commenced my current role as lecturer at Monash University Turning Point in the Masters of Addictive Behaviours.
I am engaged in the development, coordination and delivery of a number of units including ASC5005 Addiction Treatment and ASC5003 Social-Cultural Perspectives on Addiction.
I am a founding member of The Melbourne Ethnographers Collective, along with Professors Ron Adams and Hariz Haliovich.
We continue to work on exploring the relationship between the researcher and the researched.
