Biography
Dr Ali Rashidi is a Research Fellow at the Future Building Initiative jointly run by the Faculty of Engineering and Monash Art Design and Architecture at Monash University. Ali is currently an active coordinator of Digital Project Management at the Building 4.0 Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) program in Australia. Ali's teaching practice is focused on Project Management unit delivery in the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash-Clayton. He is also an adjunct lecturer in Construction Engineering and Management at the School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia. His doctoral dissertation was on “Developing Capability of Low-skilled Laborers through Serious Game in Industrialised Timber Construction Projects”. Ali’s doctoral dissertation merged engagement factors with effective educational design criteria to produce a Serious Game training prototype for an engaging low-skilled workforce in learning complex industrialised construction technologies. Ali is the inventor of 6 Intellectual Properties (Utility Innovation, Copyrights, and Trademark) in developing the design and development workflow process for gamifying instructional training manual. Additionally, he has been granted an Autodesk® Certified Professional in Revit Architecture since 2016.
Ali is a Fellow and Chartered Professional Engineer (FIEAust CPEng) at Engineers Australia. In addition, he has been a registered professional engineer (P.Eng., Construction-Supervision) with the Tehran Construction Engineering Organization since December 2010. He is an experienced construction engineer/ manager, having worked for over six years on healthcare, hospital, and factory construction projects. In addition to his professional experience, he was a member of the taskforce team under the school of engineering for adopting IR 4.0 with a specific focus on digital technologies in research and teaching streams, and a campus-level engineering representative for the development of the new active learning environment called the Monash Malaysia Educational Gamification & Immersive Experience (MEGILE).
Ali is exposed to a cross-disciplinary academic environment after having graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Master of Civil Engineering and PhD in Integrated Design Studies. He is a team player and very comfortable working on multi-disciplinary research projects, mainly in integrated design and construction informatics, construction safety, digital twins such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Extended-Reality and Serious Game applications in AEC Education, and Machine Learning for industrialisation of construction. He designed, developed, and coordinated a comprehensive training program for the Light-Gauge Steel Framing building system with his international industry partner, BlueScope Ltd. The program was designed to enhance undergraduates’ skills in modern building construction.
