Biography

Dr Adriana Sanna is an accomplished research scientist specializing in molecular and translational oncology with a particular focus on melanoma.
Originating from Sardinia, Italy, she has built a distinguished career marked by international training, collaborative research, and a commitment to advancing the understanding of cancer biology. Her scientific journey began at the IFOM-IEO campus (University of Milan), followed by specialization in Biomedical Sciences Research at Leiden University Medical Center, in The Netherlands. While this period, she received a competitive opportunity to conduct her research at the Norris Cancer Center (Keck School of Medicine) of the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.
Returning to Europe, Dr Sanna was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Scholarship (Horizon 2020) under the MELanomaGENomic program awarding her Ph.D. in Biomedicine, Cancer, and Molecular Biology at Lund University in Sweden by 2020. Within this experience, she continues to be an active member of the international GenoMel consortium, actively engaging in collaborative projects across global research networks. Dr Sanna then further honed her expertise working on cutting-edge projects in melanoma research as a Postdoctoral scientist at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), Madrid. Currently, she is based at the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Center (Monash University) in Melbourne, as Postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Shackleton’s lab, where she contributes to pioneering translational research with new links between melanocytes biology and melanoma, elucidating novel insights into tumor biology and treatment resistance.
