Biography
Dr Adriana Keating is a Research Fellow within the Fire to Flourish Program within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI). She is systems thinker whose research focuses on the human dimensions of disasters at the science-policy-practice interface. With 15 years of experience in the field, she is an expert in disaster resilience whose work utilises systems analysis, and measurement and decision-support methodologies to conceptualise and effect change in disaster resilience both in Australia and internationally.
Prior to joining Monash, Adriana was a Research Scholar with the Systemic Risk and Resilience Program at the International Institute of Applied System Analysis (IIASA), Austria. In her ongoing work with the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance, she works on measuring and building community disaster resilience, with a focus on floods and heatwaves. Adriana has also recently held the position of Research Fellow with the Centre for Urban Research, RMIT University, where she used systems analysis to understand and foster sectoral-based climate change adaptation in Victoria, and prepare the Australian emergency services sector for a climate-challenged world. Adriana has undertaken a number of research projects specifically relating to bushfire risk management.
Adriana holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science from Monash University, a Master of International and Development Economics from the Australian National University, and a Doctorate in Socioeconomics from the Vienna University of Business and Economics.
