Weak penalties for hits gives the wrong impression

    Press/Media: Expert Comment

    Description

This article questions whether the AFL and its tribunal are sending the wrong message to the community in not handing out stiffer penalties to players for 'jumper-punches' and hits to the head.  Given the well-publicised one-punch assaults within the community, the on-field hits by players with so-called leadership qualities sends a message that these acts are permissible.
